Simple circuit & usability experimentation

Activity 1

Simple circuit with 2 lights Adding more lights, getting familiar with (+) and (-) parallels Simple circuit with 2 lights LED light with wire and batttery and real wire instead of copper tape Circuit with switch component Circuit with switch componen Circuit with fader componen Combining wire and copper tape Combining tape and conductive thread Combining wire and conductive thread Tried to solder a wire to a battery for easier interfacing, did not go well... Crocodile clip experiments Made some terminals/ posts for attaching crocodile clips to out of copper tape and cardstock Took a few layers oc copper tape but worked eventually Combining various conductive methods in one circuit Multi-conductive circuit Simple 2 light circuit, planning the origami bird circuit Origami bird prototype V1 process Origami bird prototype V1 - this one ripped before I could finish it Origami bird prototype V2 Origami bird prototype V2 - this one worked but I only used one light instead of 2 just to prove the concept
Origami Bird Circuit Video Origami bird prototype V2
Origami Bird Circuit Video Origami bird prototype V2
Origami Bird Circuit Video Origami bird prototype V2
Origami Bird Circuit Video Origami bird prototype V2
Origami Bird Circuit Video

Drawer interaction: when open a light turns on to see the contents Carabiner interaction: When the gate is open or broken there is a light indicator Folding knife interaction: When the lock is secured, open or closed, there is a small indicator light. Also when you grip the handle in the open position, there is a light to illuminate what youre cutting Folding knife interaction: When the lock is secured, open or closed, there is a small indicator light. Also when you grip the handle in the open position, there is a light to illuminate what youre cutting Multitool interaction: When opened, there is a light to help you see your work in possibly small dark spaces Spray bottle interaction: a light for when your finger is on the trigger that helps you see where you're spraying Cap interaction: when you put the hat on a headlight turns on Glue gun interaction: When the tip is finished heating, a light turns on Remote interaction: When you grab the remote, a backlight turns on behind the buttons Scissor/ shears interaction: When your hand goes in the handle, a light turns on to see what you're cutting Notepad sketch Notepad open Notepad closed Lunch bag sketch Lunch bag Rotary cutter sketch Rotary cutter closed Rotary cutter open Safety Jacket sketch Safety Jacket sample Iron sketch Iron image Shaker bottle interaction sketch Shaker bottle affordances sketch Shaker bottle

Project 1

Final Project 1 Design

Wearable Interactive Affordance Based Circuit

Glasses
Affordance: Hinge
Utility: Headlamp/ reading light

I used the hinge as the affordance over the touch between the frame and my face,
i felt it was more consistent. The connection when the hinge opened was a bit glitchy but I fixed it by reinforcing the layers of copper tape. I also had to use the
conductive thread at the hinge as the tape was mot malleable enough to stay flexible around the hinge.
Glasses Video

Non-Wearable Interactive Affordance Based Circuit

Water Cup
Affordance: Water pouring
Utility: Indicator light

For this I had the idea to use water as a conductive material. There is a break in the circuit that is completed when the water is high enough in the cup, turning on the light.
I lined up the light (as best I can) to the height of the water so that you know when the cup is full and at what level the water is.
Cup Video

Non-Wearable Interactive Affordance Based Circuit

Bottle
Affordance: Cap/ hinge
Utility: Indicator light

For this I had the idea for an indicator light to show when the bottle is open, to prevent accidental spills.
I had to use electrical tape between copper tape to separate (+) and (-) wiring and conductive thread at the hinge. I also used card-stock posts and magnets for the connection point.
This worked well however I realized the light only goes on once fully open, which is not ideal it should go on as soon as the cap is lifted.
Bottle Video
