Reflexive Workshop 1 & 2

My group did the article "Good Design is Inclusive and Inclusive Design is Good For All". The article focused on the concept of inclusive design in our daily lives and how it affects people with different limitations and perspectives.

This ramp is an example of inclusive design. By designing for people with wheelchairs, it also helps people who have other issues with mobility such as crutches, weak/ old joints or even just someone whose legs are sore from the gym (like me this day) This is an example of non-inclusive design. The main attribute of this fire alarm is it's colour, it is bright and easy to see/ notice in an emergency. However, people with colour-blindness would not have the same perspective, they might not see this as clearly just because of the colour. When we design inclusively, we need to think of all perspectives, for this alarm a possible solution could be adding some large type to the handle or a sign that is also easy to see. This is an example of inclusive design that goes unnoticed, braile on signs. I might have never noticed this but all the readable signage on campus at Sheridan have braile on it, to accomodate for the blind or visually impaired. This could help anyone with vision problems, permanent or temporary, and maybe even teach people how to read braile because it is so readily available you might be able to learn numbers and the alphabet just from the signs on campus!
